Can I run a skimmer to a closed loop system???

Ok so I decided to run a closed loop system.. can I run a skimmer straight to it, instead of in sump???

Ok so here's what I'm thinking about doing. This pvc 2 1/2".. 12"ht in a 24"t sw tank

run straight to a external skimmer, then straight to return line.

can I use the same pump from skimmer to the return line???

What about when power shuts off, or pump goes out. Am I gonna have a flood problem from the skimmer????

Notta problem.Gotta set up a tank for a customer before too long and would love to do the same thing on it.Was thinking of using two tee's to manifold it off.One tee would be the intank to the skimmer pump and the other would be to tie the return of the skimmer back to the loop.Just a thought though

Just slap a check valve or two on your loop and there shouldn't be a problem

It isn't going to work. Your closed loop pump is going to pump water right up through the skimmer cup of the skimmer. Also, you should never design a plumbing system on a tank that relies on check valves. They will fail, regardless of how much maintenance you perform on them.

Ok. So run I'll just run my skimmer in my sump. Which means I have to get me a dc pump for my closed loop system. Lol more $$ to spend

I really wanted to run my system outside. But I live In texas. So imma have to build like a little storage building with foam insulation. So many options. Lol I love this hobby
