I’m thinking about adding some sps to my mixed reef.
I currently have lots of zoas, leathers, lps (frogspawn/hammer). And some montis. And a very healthy RBTA. It’s a 125g 24” deep, 5’ wide.

Everything is super healthy and has great growth.
My PAR at bottom is 100 at top is about 200.
(2x xr30g4 pro)

I am looking for more variety and colors. Most of what I have can’t go on top because par is a bit too high there. So was thinking maybe I can add some sps.

Sure here’s my mixed reef.

Most of SPS need higher PAR, basic SPS will survive, but at risk of losing color. Search for low light SPS. There are LPS that look like sps with less light requirements, that retain their colosr.

IME, birdsnest and porites can survive and grow. Porites kept their sand or green color.

Shown in this thread mixed reefs have to indicate their PAR levels, you have very special situation.

Hi, I have just started keeping sps too after having a zoa garden for a while, I have got some red sea lights so took the lunge into my first sps and they've grown already some tangs in the tank always have to photo bomb my pictures

I run my xr30’s at 57% and about 12” above the water surface. They are in the AB+ setting.
I’m definitely not looking for some super high lighting sps.
But some that branch, with decent coloring - for variety. Birdsnest looks real nice imo, and some caps too.
I already have some monti more in the center, which are growing so much I can notice growth daily.

Stylophora, and poccilipora are easy branching SPS that do not require super strong lighting. 150 to 200 par would be plenty to keep them colored up, and growing.
Thank you for the ideas.
Now to find a local reefer that is selling some.
I only buy from local reefers with established systems if I can.

Montipora digis and pavona are both easy options in a mixed reef tank too. Those have done well in my nano. I have had troubles keeping stylophora and birdsnest alive, but that's just my own issue :) Both of those are easy ones too

I am slowly ramping up my lights to get closer to 300 par on the top column. So I can keep a larger variety of SPS.
So far I'm at about 250 PAR and everything is still doing really good.
I'm not too worried about the LPS in my tank since they are all in the lower column. I have some zoas pretty high up.
And the leathers I have are more in the mid/lower column.
My monit's are mid/upper column. But they should be ok with a bit more PAR.
