Hey All,

I purchased a galaxea frag from my LFS this weekend and once I got home and got it on my frag rack I started research placement and realized how aggressive these guys are. I would love to see some pictures or your galaxea especially pertaining to placement in your tank as I decide where to place it in my tank and if I should take it bake to my LFS.

It colored up really well and turned out to be a beautiful piece so I would love to keep it if possible.

Thanks all!

They are very pretty pieces but like you said fairly agressive, I'd give them good space, on a long rock away from the rest of the rockwork if you can't find about 6in of space in the sand bed

I have a few frags/colonies in my tank, and they are as aggressive as everyone says.

As for placement, there are a few things to consider.
1. The sweepers will extend in the flow direction, so it is much more important to give larger space down flow compared to up flow.
2. Different colonies of Galaxea can be kept together without problem, so you can have a section of your tank for different types of Galaxea.
3. Despite being aggressive and producing long sweepers, Galaxea are not that strong in actual warfare and will likely be outcompeted by other aggressive LPS like Euphyllia (see Fig. 5 of this study).

Here is the placement in my tank. I have an area for only Galaxea and leave about 3in in both directions down flow.
My personal observation is that the larger the colony, the longer the sweepers, so I place the largest colony in the middle so that it is >6in away from other types of corals.

I would say that don't put anything you are not willing to lose within 6inch down flow of a Galaxea frag. You can strategically put it in a corner closer to overflow so that there is nothing much down flow.

This one is my favorite Galaxea piece with very intense coloration under blue light.
