The more i read, the more I understand the danger's of chemical's and it's effects in fish like eel's and lionfish, so, just to be on the safer side, I've only seen positive aspect's when I used carbon with them especially with the knowledge of eel's slime coat being toxic and in a closed ecosystem such as an aquarium, the toxin's could build up stressing the eel (I believe this to be true) but, i still want to ask, should I use carbon?

It definitely has its pros and cons and also the confirmed aspect of it causing hlle in fish (head lateral line erosion) do I have to keep using it with its risk's? Or is there a better alternative?

The key to using carbon with minimal risk for HLLE is to use the highest grade Granulated Activated Charcoal. This article provides excellent information.
