Can my new protein skimmer be garbage

i got a no name skimmer from ebay the pump is 300gph and i am puting it on a 47gal tank its been runing for 12hr and still no foam is building up in the cup at all did i get ripoff?.......................................

It could take a few days before it breaks in and starts skimming. Just give it a few days

Give it a few days to break in and accumulate the oils along the walls of the skimmer. If it is not foaming or bubbling at all you may have a problem there. Good luck. Al

there should also be some way to adjust it to skim wet/dry.

it looks like its getting broken in. That is what my 2 Euroreefs do after i give them a good cleaning. They won't really produce much skimmate at all for the first 24hours. Then they go crazy and all kinds of brown crap appears.
