Can Red Sea KH test be used for freshwater testing?

My nephew wants a tank and he really likes the platys but these are hard water fish and my tap is soft water so I need to raise the KH for this new tank. I am wondering if I can use the Red Sea test kit to monitor it?

No. It can’t. I tried the other day and got no reading on a 3dkh aquarium.
