Can slime molds grow in reef tanks?

If this were out of the water, I'd say it was a Myxomycete or something along those lined. Never seen orange algae and it came off easily.

I honestly don't know. It's so small I can't see detail to tell if it's a sponge or an algae.
I have about four or five of them on a tank I just cycled on a qt. nothing in the tank right now. I cycled the tank with old tank water and Fiji mud. Dry sand dry rock. I have some diatoms So right now I'm leaning to sponge due to high silicates.
I don't believe it is a bad thing in either case.
Not sure who to ask.

It fragmented into a powdery type particulate matter, not unlike magic sand.
I suspect it may return.

If it is a sponge and that texture to me would say it is. It should be back.
Sponges are neat that way.
