If it has little spikes on it is say incrusting sponge. If not take a photo in whites when you can.

Does #2 have tiny holes all over it?
I assume it's soft?
I could be a sponge, but I'm not sure. It looks a bit like a critter I find occasionally on the beach attached to mollusks called a hitchhiker anemone. They tend to attach to crabs but also attach to mollusks. They look like little leathery cone shapes, like a volcano. But I would think by now you would have seen the tentacles move in and out from the tip.

Hopefully others will have better ideas.

I recently had a "chicken liver sponge" on a yuma I got. I was convinced it was some type of leather untill #frags2fishes told me. They are invasive. IF thats what it is. Id hold off on removing untill you get a definitive answer.
