Purple, red, green, several types and several colors. People often day red, but purple is common too.
Then in doubt, blast it with a turkey baster or similar, if it moves/comes off easily, Cyano.
Coraline doesn't move or come off without a fight..
What I was referring to most is the stuff on your sand.. classic Cyano

awesome, thanks! how would you recommend removing or going forward with it?

How old is the tank? I don't generally recommend anything drastic. I would make sure the flow is decent, keep diligent about doing water changes and let it ride.
Cyano is one of those things that comes and goes. Especially so in a relatively new tank.. If things get to a point of needing real attention, there are ways of dealing with it.. based on what I see in your tank, I'd not panic at all. Very common indeed.

The tank is only 2 months old, so still new. I just wanted to make sure that this kind of algae wasn't a bad one since i couldn't find anything that matched its description

I probably could have guessed the age of the tank, but didn't want to overstep. All good. There are 1000 answers as to how to deal with Cyano. Most are hear say. Time is the best answer.. couple that with proper maintenance, and you are 98% of the way there..
Now.... That said... This is part of the "New Tank Uglies". It happens.. there are many who will tout some miracle cure or bacteria, or magic beans.. there is SOME truth in the magic beans theory, but in this hobby slow and steady wins the race. Somebody much smarter than me said a long time ago, "Nothing good in this hobby happens fast". Read lots, ask lots of questions, filter out the regurgitated bs by those who THINK they know and you'll be just fine.. better than that, successful and fine...
Okay... Soapbox rant over...
