Hey.. I just need some advise on this algae I have in my tank.. it’s kinda UGLY!! and I don’t want it effecting my corals that I’ve literally just got a few days ago!!!

My water parameters are

Po4 0.05-0.02
KH 13
PH 8.0
NH4 0.0
NO2 0.01
NO3 20-40 (think due to just getting a skimmer)

Other then that I think the tank is okay.. ????

Looks like Green Hair Algae.

Alk is a little high but nothing to worry about. Get those Nitrates down to around 10 and everything else looks ok.

Thanks, what would be best way to get rid of the algae??? And what’s fastest way to drop the nitrates?

Gha And agree on high alk.
Astrea and trochus snails and even a pencil urchin will take this down.
Lowey white intensity and you can use Vibrant liquid which works well on this stuff

Water change is the fastest way to drop nitrates.

There's a few methods to get ride of GHA but the most common is manually pulling the algae out of the tank. Make sure you rinse your hand in a bowl of RO/DI water every time you reach back into the tank to grab more algae. If you don't you'll just spread the algae problem to more places in the tank. Watch this YouTube video.

Thanks man!! But it’s kinda hard when I have a decent size lion fish in there.. not really feeling getting stung by him!

Pffft wimp. LOL

Sea urchin or an emerald crab looks to be your best bet with that line fish in the tank. Just be weary of the emerald Crab. After the green hair algae is gone it could turn into a nuisance pest.

Ha thanks!! Where I brought the lion from my actual one stung the guy in there and told me the pain and side effects he had so I’d rather not lol!!

And yeah I have 1 urchin.. purple stripe one don’t know it’s proper name lol.. and a few red leg hermits but they ante touching the algae!
