Hi All,
Any and all assistance is appreciated.
Goes away at night comes back after the lights are on a few hours.

Thanks!
Al

Diatoms! Part of a new tank cycling. They will go away after the tank has finished cycling.

Thank you!
Been going crazy vacuuming everyday but keep losing sand. Dog!

You need some type of microscope to tell the difference. Hopefully they are diatoms. Anyhow here is a video about the treatment of Dinos.

Diatoms and cyano combo. Makes sense as it needs light to thrive and expand.
Siphon gravel to rid of and reduce white light intensity a little. If it does not go away, Chemiclean works well to eradicate it.

how old is your tank?
What is your po4 and no3

Tank was established for 12-18 months when purchased and moved in 4/11. Basically did a 50% Water change and 90% live sand change that day.
I have since done 25%water changes weekly.
Here are my parameters today. I need a Phosphate test (any recommendations besides Hanna)

I like the hanna the best, but before that I used salifert (I had a hard time with the colors though).

Also, Microscope may be a good buy, you can get one on amazon for $20. It will help you identify what your dealing with.

That screenshot you have is really cool, is that a reef tracker app on your phone? If so, which one is it?

The po4 is quite important could you just add a picture of the sand bed under white light only please

I will get a microscope, yes the app is Reef Trace. Just started it yesterday. App seems pretty interesting.

Will pick up a Phosphate Test Kit in the am...
Here are pics without any light.
All just on the surface.

This looks like diatoms to me, I would start by checking your ro for silica as this may be feeding them.

The app is ReefTrace on iOS. I’ve only been using it for 2 days but seems pretty cool.

Unfortunately live in a condo and don’t have room for a RO/DI system yet. For the past few weeks done distilled water for ATO although for the last week I have been using 5 gallons of RO/DI I purchased at Aquarium Care Center in South Jersey.

Any suggestions on a small RO/DI system I can attach and detach and store away?

Just carry on with LFS water for now, if that’s convenient for you.
