I purchased my first Coral 2 weeks ago. It is doing really good. But tonight I found this green thing underneath the my Coral. I have no Idea what it is, or even if it can hurt my coral.

I am new to the hobby and I have never seen anything like this. Please help, I don't want to lose my coral!!!!!!:too_sad:

From what I can see on my phone it looks like a sponge. Harmless unless they get out of control and grow over the coral.

Thank you for helping me id this thing. It scared the daylights out of me!! Right now it's below the coral but a few of the branches are growing right on the sponge.
If it does continue to grow and invade my coral what can I do?

If you can take put the coral, the sponge should be easy to pull off or scrub off with a hard bristled tooth brush. Rinse it off with tank water in a bucket before you put it back in the tank.

I believe most sponges will die if exposed to air thats what ive always heard. So if it starts to get outta control you could probably pull the rock out for a min and that will take care of it

Thank you all for the input. I have watched it carefully for the last two nights. It seems to inflate at night, almost like a balloon. My coral is doing good so I am not to worried. I know look for it whenever I view the tank. I will take miyags advise and leave it be. If it does get out of hand I will have to get rid of it. For now it's become a focal point in the tank.
