Hello,
I've went fallow on my tank for a couple months due to a velvet outbreak. During this time I started to get some GHA throughout the tank and it slowly turned into this webby reddish algae. I was thinking about getting some fish soon since the velvet is more than eradicated by now, but I would like to know what this algae is, if it's dangerous to fish, and how I would go about treating it. Attached below are some pics of it under normal lighting and under plain white lighting. Thanks for reading!

Yikes! Did you do anything to remove it as it grew over the last couple months? Do you have a clean up crew?

Manual removal of as much as you can from the sand and glass is a start. Manual removal from any rocks you can get out of the tank (scrub with a toothbrush in a container of tank water) is also going to help...

You'll need to post your parameters, etc...

Parameters are:
pH 8
Nitrite 0
Nitrate 0
Ammonia 0
Phosphate 0
Alk 6.9
Salinity 1.024
Temp 78.5

I've scraped it countless times and it always came back worse. The only thing that was and is still in the tank over the extended fallow period was 3 hermits and an urchin. I was hoping for an ID on it so I can take a more directed approach.

Actually, with your nutrients bottomed out, I think dinos is probably the correct ID.
I was under the impression that cyano can also be a problem with bottomed-out nutrients. Dinos and cyano fill similar niches, both being able to quickly take over an environment during periods of instability or unhealthy parameters (too high or too low). I think you need a microscope to accurately determine if it's dinos or not.

In any case, kropa008 should try to increase their nutrients.
