Can SPS have great coloration using only blue lighting

Dana your last comment was using t 5 black light / are they the same as actinic .
Or did I read this wrong .
For a truly violet/blue tank, two types of fluorescent lamps would be used - an actinic (blue) and a black light generating UV-A at 365nm and some violet light. So, yes, two types of lamps. With LEDs, the number of diodes would include those within a range of 365 to 470nm.

@Dana Riddle I just read where you mentioned that 420nm doesn’t contribute to fluorescence. Is that so?
Gosh, did I say that? If so, I need to issue a correction. I can say with a high degree of certainty that 420nm will cause a fluorescent protein to glow or 'pop.' Light at 470nm will stop the transition from green to red in a number of proteins (Clade D proteins found in Lobophyllia, Montastraea, Echinophyllia, and many others.)

Dana,
You were quoted as mentioning that, I’m sorry to misquote your misquote! Really appreciate your response, thanks!!!

I ran predominantly blue (100 blue, 50 white along with blue plus T5s) for awhile and noticed alot of my sps turning green. Over the last couple months ive slowly added green and red but havent noticed any difference in coloration yet...

I have a nanobox I run 0 white led but run the mints low. Very blue appearance..my husband loves blue tanks...it is a mixed reef and pops like crazy. No issues with that light with color or growth.

I got lime on other tank with blue plus t5b(hybrid) and that one looks more natural while maintaining the pop.

Incredibly happy with both.

I would say you can definitly have a blue appearing tank to our eyes while still having spectrum for health. Just depends on the fixture.

Go diving at a reef see what color you see the most ,like in the Philippines it's the deep blue sea man really

There is more red, yellow and green in a "blue" T5 than there is in a "blue" LED. There is also more blue in a 6500K MH or T5 bulb than there is in a "blue" bulb or tube... just more of the other colors too.

Umm not really. Some green is intentionally added but not red or yellow. Actinics have a TINY amount of yellow added.

Not sure if it’s been mentioned here but RRC runs only Blue Plus bulbs. A local LFS here did the same and grew coral great. Only downside is if it‘s your display you have to look at windex all day…
