Can student desk hold a 20 long?

I want to set up a qt with a 20 long. I'm also considering using it as a frag tank in the future.

Will the inexpensive student desk I have in the extra room hold the weight?

Could you post a picture of it? Not sure what student desks you have but the ones in my school are the size of a 10 gallon tank so a 20 long couldn't even fit lol

It's 31" x 13" and will weigh around 170# when full. Depending on your weight you could test it by sitting on the desk.

That really depends. I've seen desks that groan under the weight of a Physics book and others that could support a Smart car.

The drawers are made of ply wood there is a veneer on the desk so I can't determine if the desk is plywood or particle board. The tank in the pic is the one in question so the surface area of the top is large enough. I weigh 260 lbs and it holds me w/o any problem, but that's not long term.

The desk is built of 3/4" board.

I don't see any issue holding the weight on the desk pictured. I'd just take precautions to keep the desktop dry as you perform maintenance and water changes.

Thanks. I was going to cover the top w/ some type of water proofing, butyl rubber roofing maybe, and some sort of pad to level the tank.

I've got a very similar desk made by Broyhill that I've had since I was a kid, I have no doubt it'd support the weight of a 20g tank. Held up to me climbing on it, my daughters, and now my grandson

I'm guessing that top is particle board... with the laminate, it'd be OK, just don't let it stay wet... wipe up your spills.

Please just make sure it is level. Lay down on the desk as well and see if it flexes. If its not too bad then fill the tank with freshwater and let it sit for 48 hours just as a basic test
