Can these go in the tank?

these were in my old freshwater aquarium.

They're decently porous and have a bunch of fossils of shells and stuff in them. They've been in the sun for a few weeks and I can put them in bleach.

They'd be good building blocks for improving my aquascape, just not sure if it's going to kill anything.

I'd soak them and test water after a week to make sure it's not leaching anything. Other than that I don't see a problem

what and how would I check that?

I was going to do bleach water overnight to kill any bacteria, then soak in ro water with prime for a week doing 100% changes every other day.

Also, if they aren't made specifically for salt water they might not hold much bacteria even if they look porous. I've heard a good test is to weigh them dry, let them soak, then weigh again and look for a measurable difference

Bleach for a week, declorinate for 2 weeks, dry in the sun till crispy and you should be ok...most live rock is nothing except fossilized corals anyways.

I was just afraid it would leach things from the freshwater days into my tank.

This is how things look currently, not sure how bad I wasn't to add.

The freshwater diseases/algae/etc won't cross to a marine tank so you will be good using them....you just want them to be free from any contaminants in the rock such as fish waste, algae waste, etc.

They were in there for 6 years. Tank was taken down a month ago and they've been on the deck.

One of them fizzed with a drip of vinegar. I assume don't use that one.

Looks like heavy rain for the foreseeable future. Can I pop these in the oven at 200 for a while?

I wouldn't worry about them anymore if in doubt, just throw them out back in some garden. It's not like it's 100's of #s possible great rock for the tank.

I was mainly only looking at using 1-2 pieces. I'm never going to be satisfied with my aquascape whether I use them or not.

If you ever used copper in your FW tank I wouldn't use them. They may not have soaked any of the copper up but I wouldn't take the chance.

I pitched them in the garden and bought more base rock. Now I'm happy.
