Can they live together?

Upgrading from a 20g to a 100g. Currently have a fire fish goby, wife wants a mandarin goby and I want a diamond back sand sifting goby. Can all 3 live together in the 100g or would that be a bad idea?

The first two mentioned aren't actually gobies, and none of them are closely related. They won't notice each other.

The mandarin and watchman do require a little research and planning so that they don't starve.

My wife wanted a mandarin as well. She got it a year and some months in. Had to wait for the pod population to be sustainable. Also had a pod farm in the basement for about 6 months.

Thanks that’s what I thought but I’ve seen them labeled as gobies hence the confusion.

I’ve done a lot of research on the mandarin and know they need a really strong pod population and captive bred to have the best chance of doing well.

The sand sifter though I don’t know as much about. I know they need a really fine grain size in order for them to be able to filter it and not hurt themselves and that they can be picky eaters as well.

Curious if the sand sifter and mandarin though might end up competing to much for a similar food source?

I had a Green Mandarin, Purple Firefish and DWG (the sand sifting goby you want) all in a 36 gallon with zero problems between them. The first is actually a Dartfish, the second is considered a Dragonet and the 3rd is an actual Goby. Agreed on the challenges of keeping a Mandarin fed, you need a really big population built up over time to keep things going.
