can this ballast run a radium 20k bulb?

sure can but it has to be a 250w mogal cause radium does not make a DE bulb. By the way great choice for a new ballast

thanks for all the help....:)
so this blue wave 2 dual pulse start ballast will run 2x250w SE radium bulbs?
im about to buy it now...
can anyone tell me if it is?thanks for the help guys

Looks like it's a pulse start ballast. Yes, you can run it with the Radium. You'll need either electronic ballast or a pulse start ballast to run a radium bulb.
I noticed it's $250.00. Ouch!
FYI, I bought an electronice ballast from hellolights and a pulse start from ebay. I run both side by side. I can't tell the difference in color spectrum. The only difference is my pocketbook. I paid $120.00 - $130.00 included shipping for the electronic and $35.00 shipped for the ballast from ebay.
I like using the electronice ballast for the fact that is run cooler and saved energy. I eventually will replace all my ballast with the electronic.

charisse your going to like the radiums.
It's what I use on my zoanthid tank.
hi there marty..yes i am gonna replace my light fixture and will do a hanging canopy over my main tank...
i am planning to do 2 250w radiums and 2 vho's for actinics...m planning to put 1 super actinic and 1 454:bigsmile:

i won same as that ballast on ebay..won it for 99.99 plus 35 shipping...

sweet deal.

I changed out the crappy 3x55watt actinic for 2 x 75watt VHO 454 bulbs and it is like WOW.
Big difference and I love that 454 color.

yes after reserching and looking at peoples tank with vho's..im like why the regular red shrooms are sooo neon red like glowing under vho's actinics...its like they glows...after seeing paul(fragman) frag tank, the one where he has the softies...im like wow...

so i made up my mind that im gonna replace my light fixture and do radiums with vho's:)

Way to go!!!! that's a great price. You saved a boatload of cash!!! You can really find some good deal on ebay if you have time to look. :)

BTW, I just saw one the same thing for $161.95 shipped on Ebay. No bid and no wait.

That's probably not the ballast you want. It may fire the bulb but it won't "overdrive" the bulb like it would run on a magnetic HQI ballast, which is the bulb/ballast combo everyone raves about. On that ballast the PAR output will be just a bit more than 1/2 of what you'd get on a true HQI.

Have a look here:
http://www.cnidarianreef.com/lamps.cfm
PAR output is 283 to 390 on the HQI

You want an ANSI code M80 ballast which would be the actually be the Blue Wave 3. Good luck finding one though because they've been discontinued (confirm it's actually in stock first). The Coralife HQI ballast works ONLY with the Coralife fixture. Next best would probably be a Galaxy select-a-watt. It's a combination 250/400 watt electronic ballast with a special "HQI" setting which runs the bulb about 15 watts higher.
