I received several coral frags yesterday from an online purchase. Some of the frags are disappointing. Specifically this Prism Goniastrea, I ordered a one polyp frag and got half of a healthy polyp and two and a half dead polyps.

Is this coral doomed or am I overthinking it? Anything I can do to hopefully find success with this one? I already dipped in iodine.

I’m still new so any feedback is welcome.

It looks like it can recover. I'd leave it be in low light and moderate indirect flow. Try not to intervene and keep things stable. If there is flesh then there's hope. Nice coral

I had an acan come back from a similar situation. Has the tissue stopped receeding at this point or is it still slowly disappearing?

It’s hard to say, doesn’t seem to be receding but I’ve only had it for a day.

I can’t help but think that they fragged it to sell as a 3 polyp, and then it started dying so they sent it off while they could still sell it..

If the tissue sticks around another week I would say there is a very good chance it can grow back. Worth trying either way. I think watching a recovery take place is one of the coolest things that can happen in a tank.

IMO if the skeleton isn’t white or growing algae it’s not dead. Follow instructions above and if your tank is healthy I think you’ll see a recovery in the future.

I’d be ticked at the seller however and I personally wouldn’t be okay with just letting it go

I’ll do my best to keep things stable. I’ll try to remember to post some updates as things change.

Here’s an update: it’s definitely dead. I’ll be surprised if there’s any tissue left by this afternoon.

Thanks for the help though everyone.
