Can this Gorgonian be saved? Tank crash

Hi guys,

Yesterday i went back from a 4 days trip to find out that my chiller was leaking a bit. Well, that wouldn’t be much of a problem if i didn’t had an automatic fresh water(deionized) refill system.

Short story: It reached 1010 salinity and (obviously) that was enough to kill 98% of the 600L tank.

That particular tank had a really beautiful Gorgonian(i don’t know the specie) that is if not killed, soon.

My question is: there is any way of saving it? should i cut the dead tissue?

Prayer might work and without it I think chances are slim. Bummer about your situation, prayers for your comfort.

Thanks for the reply’s. I hope someone can share some knowledge on it. I just would like to try all i can. Not about money though, i just feel bad for something that took years to be that big. I don’t feel like giving up..

So sorry for your loss. I had two huge gorgonians. Had a massive die off. The only way I could save anything was to cut off the healthiest sections and glue them into crevices on a rock and put them in an area of higher flow. You can see in the second pic, they are starting to come back. Good luck!

When it gets to this point, recovery often will not occur but leave it in there and see what happens. Any live areas can be cut and replanted

Yeah, i didn’t go through(even cutted parts), sadly. But thanks for all help guys.
