I was telling my friend how I’ve been researching a lot on reef tanks because that’s my next big challenge, so I’m looking for a tank. I also told him the story about my 75g tank and how I purchased it a few months ago before considering a reef tank. I was upgrading my 29g freshwater tank to a 75g freshwater. Somebody posted it on craigslist, the price was right, and I jumped on it. When I picked the 75g tank up, the guy told me this was his 1st reef tank for awhile, but he just recently upgraded to a larger tank. The tank came with a stand, hob filter, light, etc. . He mentioned,…why not use the 75g since the guy before me had it setup as a reef tank? I didn’t know if that was possible, so I started looking into it. It’s hard trying to find answers on specific questions so I thought I would ask R2R for some feedback. Would this tank’s setup work for a reef aquarium and be successful? I don’t plan on having any fish for several months. I want to make sure I can keep the water parameters stable and in check. And please be honest.
Current tank is;
75g-not predrilled
Approximately 49”w X 21”h X 18”d
48” light that holds one florescent bulb. The only info on the bulb is 32W, about 1” in diameter, and says All Glass Aquarium Rapid-Start.
Emperor 400 Dual Bio Wheel HOB filter
Hydro-Sponge Filter V (125g)
100W heater
Maxi-Jet 600 power-head 160gph
JP-033 Water pump 158gph

In my opinion,…I’m still missing a protein skimmer, an additional heater, and need a much better lighting source.
Last, just a side note...I still have my 29g tank sitting empty. It is not predrilled either.
As always, thanks again everyone. I really do appreciate the feedback.

Any tank by itself can be used for a reef tank. You can run naked or use peripherals as seen fit.
