Can we DIY the GFO?

A diy involves finding a distributor and buying a large amount. It is not an ordinary chemical, but a high surface area material made specifically for water purification (removing arsenic from drinking water was the original purpose, I believe).

It can go under the trade name Bayoxide 33.

I went down that rabbit hole myself. Based on research I did the red iron oxide I link to below maybe be GFO. I wasn't confidant enough myself to put it in my tank though.

I don't believe that is correct.

Red iron oxide is simply iron oxide, with whatever particle size and surface area they want to sell you.

GFO is not a simple chemical, as I mentioned:

"It is a dry amorphous nanoparticular α-Ferric oxide hydroxide with a particularly high surface area and adsorption capacity."

No it is not the right one. It is powdered, that normally use to color a product, like a tablet, or sachet,...

Thanks. I think I give up and just go with RowaPhos. I did check some bulk products, the price is maybe cheaper but I have to order in bulk, hence the shipping fee will be massive...
Not economical at all.
