Can we get our large tank setups insured?

Insured against what?
Something that's not covered under your home owners policy?

Your homeowner's policy will cover the tank and equipment similar to covering stuff in the house...but livestock such as coral and fish will not be covered.

As per flood damage, ask your carrier regarding tanks specifically, but in general they should be covered similar to having a bathtub overfill.

Lastly, there are riders for insurances that allow you to cover additional things that typically lie outside the homeowners policy (most riders are for expensive jewelry, wine, art, etc). Rarely if ever will riders cover animals, but if you pay enough, you can insure anything. The rider might be so expensive it's not worth the cost however.

I've only been able to insure my actual home in the case of a tank failure under my Renter's policy. They were very clear that it covers only damage to the house, not the tank or anything inside it. If I had a larger tank I would definitely look around to see if anyone offers additional coverage.

Renters policies can vary a lot, but it is possible to cover the tank (NOT the inhabitants). Some renters policies are designed to help you protect the property from accidents YOU cause. Other renters insurances help to recover your property in the event they are damaged from things. A tank (something that may fail on its own) may require a special rider for consideration.

Wow. Im a home owner (Stick build) so im going to call my guy tomorrow.

Lloyds of London will insure anything, my friend. A dancer's legs for $5 Million. So I would say "Yes." :p As someone mentioned, you typically would ask your homeowner's insurance company for a special rider. (Not to be confused with Van Halen's special backstage rider, 'No brown M&Ms'.)

In CA Farmers does not cover damage from tanks unless it is plumbed directly into the wall plumbing and that plumbing has to fail. Been there.
