Can you cut a carpet anemone?

Can you cut a carpet anemone? Like you can cut a Bubble tip?

has anyone tried it?

I would not recommend it. I have cut BTA's and Sebae's, but I don't believe carpets tolerate it very well.

I have cut rbta's several times. I have not tried to cut carpet nor do i have 1 yet.

it can be done but why would you want to?
if you have a healthy carpet consider yourself lucky to begin with

I have both a blue and a green carpet each more than 20 inches in diameter. Would like to split both of these.

There's a thread on a different forum about someone doing this - he cut a medium size green carpet in half and I believe both halves survived but it was very touch and go for a while. He also took a lot of heat for doing so as splitting is not the natural means of reproduction for these according to many in that thread. So it can be done, but the results are far from gauranteed and you have to take a lot of precautions afterwards.

Kraylon? I never saw the results of that and I don't think it was ever proven. I think Anthony Calfo claimed to split carpet nems years ago but I've never seen any results of that either. If I did it then it would be well documented somewhere. If you have a link to proof that this can be done I'd like to see.

One of the halves died. I've never read about long term success after a cut. They don't split naturally; bad move imo. Write into WWM and see what they say.

I've seen a few threads online where people cut them and none survived that I ever saw. We had a guy locally that considered himself an "expert" with nems. He actually cut a large red carpet in half and was bragging that they lived. One month later they were still "healing". Then a month after that he bragged that both of them healed and were doing great however they both ended up getting caught in a powerhead the same day and that's what killed them. He's know to be full of it though.

So yeah, I'd never try it. My blue carpet is getting too big for my tank, I wish you could cut them because I don't want to get rid of it.

I have seen a few ppl cut them! the biggest problem is when they are cut they will release toxins that will kill everything in the tank! be careful and have lots of carbon on hand

If u did this I would put the two in a qt tank and treat it to help heal

i have a beautiful 15 inch carpet and its doing gr8 i dont think i would b wise to cut a carpet

I saw someone split a rock with a carpet nem on it to move the nem, and the nem ended up splittting into 4 or 5 pieces. I think about 3 of them made it.
