so we have been cycling our new 125 gallon tank for about 18 days now. Half live rock, half dry, almost all dry sand and only those little critters that hitchhiked on the live rock (which was very fresh). We've been checking levels every 3 or 4 days and things are good! We only have a heater and power head running in it now as we are in process of sumping into the basement. The sump/refug will be finished in a few days and ready to actually hook up and we will hook it up. (oh my husband has had such a time of it too - pvc everywhere, trying to sort connections, itswaytooconfusing for me)
BUT ... we are going on vacation for a week on July 9 and sort of planned on not adding any kind of livestock, coral, CUC or anything until after we get back.
That would put us at over 2 months of just letting it cycle with nothing really growing in there aside from coraline algae etc. (seen a couple hair worms and lots of wee wee feather dusters and some leather sponge)
Should we perhaps consider putting in just a wee something (a shrimp, a really really hardy coral, etc.) so that all the ... chemistry ... has something to work on? I know it will not hurt to leave it sitting there with nothing in it but are we prolonging the whole thing for no reason?
Or am I being too impatient?
(I am getting pretty sick of counting itty bitty tube worms)
we do squirt some phyto planton something in there every day or so for the wormies etc .... but other than that, nadda

Was sort of hoping I should get a shrimp or something but I know you are right. Did spot a tube worm today though ..... Joy!
