I unfortunately came to have dinos in my tank, and am now dosing nitrates and phosphates in order to fight it. I came across a couple threads where Randy mentioned that using a potassium nitrate to dose can cause issues since the potassium is removed slowly. I came across magnesium nitrate at the site below:

Would it be possible to dose this instead removing the potassium issue, and would this help magnesium as well?

Why not dose sodium nitrate? I try to avoid elements that build to a level that create issues later.

Mainly price, and also, since I have a Trident, I am daily testing magnesium and can ensure its level doesn't rise to a bad point so I have clear visibility. Also, based on the dosing, it would reduce the amount of magnesium to dose weekly anyways.
