Can you get Marine Ich from water?

I have been using premade “ocean” water for water changes since the start of the tank. shortly after getting 4 new fish (2 clowns, a kole tang, and a sailfin tang) I got a very bad Ich outbreak. when i contacted the provider (they were pre quarantined) He said that i most likely got the parasite for the water i was using. Is this possible? or did i get it from his fish?

Premade ocean water as water collected from the ocean? If that’s the case I guess it’s possible that something like ich might make its way to your system.
if it’s just premixed saltwater then no, ich can’t just appear out of nowhere.

My guess is a faulty qt procedure, it’s not that terribly hard to screw up after all.

Fish can carry ich undetected. The way to detect it is with QT.
Ocean water is also can be polluted with ich parasites.

Ocean water: yes
RODI/salt: no
Retailer that says they QT fish: most probable cause. Don’t trust others with QT.
If you added corals or other inverts: also likely they carried it to tank.

Do you QT inverts/corals?
Was your fish provider a LFS?

Just a hunch, test the water and see if you can detect any PO4 or NO3 next time you buy. If you get a reading on either of those, it’s either: they gave you water from an existing system and/or they are not using RODI.

usually is, and never had a problem. Ordered from this guy (and paid premium for them to be clean) because the new fish were expensive then my others
