Can you have too much flow?

Hey all,
220g mix reef. Montiporas, torch, hammers, candy canes, one leather, Duncan’s, psammacora, stylophoras, birds nest, mushrooms, bubble corals etc. I upped the flow a few months ago to to help with algae and dead spots. while the tank in general looks happy- I’ve noticed very little polyp extension. How can you tell if you are over doing it on flow?
