So I've been struggling with keeping my nitrates up in my softie dominated tank which is a RSR 350 (90 gal total). I can't seem to raise it past 3-5ppm and I've been told a tank like mine should have levels of 10-15ppm. I feed rather heavily with twice a day feeding of frozen food I make myself and supplement with pellets every other day. I run a:
  • protein skimmer (dry) 24/7
  • Filter socks (running poly filter now since it's easier)
  • UV filter
  • Refugium with chaeto
  • 1 brick of marine pure (cut into small squares that sit in between my baffles)
I tried dosing nitrates (per Randy's recipe) and it brought back my hair and bubble algae with a vengeance. So I would rather not dose again. So should I start to cut back on some of my items above? Anyone have other suggestions??? Thanks!
