Can you id my clam

Obviously I just put it in the tank but the guy at the store didn't know what it was. I think it's a Tridacna squamosa, but that's just my guess, which is why I put it on the sand. Any thoughts

Don’t think it’s a squamosa, the scuts ( I think that’s the right word) aren’t very pronounced.

From what I can see it looks more like a Maxima. How much did you pay, Blue Squamosa are about 250 currently.

Light type please.

I would leave it in the sandbed for now.

Whats showing looks like a maxima. I feel that the shell looks like a crocea. happy clamming. Please post your light. This will also suck down alk and calcium so test and adjust.

It looks very similar to mine in which I have attached a picture. The mantle and colors are very similar yet the shell
On mine is quite a bit different, in that he has lots of ridges on his shell. Hope this helps a little more for you.

That looks like a tridacna maxima. You should slowly move it up in the tank. For now you can place it on a seperate piece of rock so it can attach to it and make moving it easier. I don't think it will get sufficient light on the bottom in a deep tank.

Ok. It was under strong lighting in the lfs, only about 12-15 inches from a Kessel, so maybe I'll try moving it up quicker

Is it big? ....like 5 to 6 inches? If so, then it is a Tahitian Maxima. If so, it will need more light than you can likely give it from a Kessil or Radion Pros.

Even though I am not wishing death on anything, I like to be proactive and mention that these are very hard clams - do not take it too personally if it does not make it.

Thank you. I looked it up a bit more and I do think it may be a Tahitian Maxima. Not good.
