Today I found about 40 to 80 small egg sacks on the glass of my aquarium. I took a picture of one. Note it is an extreme macro of a single sack about half a mm in diameter. The black lines are scratches on the aquarium glass. I would guess snail eggs. I don't have any paired fish or shrimp.

Nerite snail eggs? These basically look like sesame seeds on the glass.

Exactly what kind of snails do you have in your tank? Also, instead of a close up shot can you zoom out and take a picture of the cluster? I just want to see what your seeing from outside the tank.

I know I have astrea, trochus and nerites. I may have others. Nerites and trochus were in the area. The egg sacks were scattered around the left 1/3 of a 75 gal aquarium and on the left side. They are the small white dots.

What did you use to take that picture?

I used a Nikkor 105 mm macro lens with reversed 50 mm lens attached to the end. I have found the combination gives amazing resolution if I can keep the camera steady--no mirror slap.

Nerite snail eggs my bet.

Thanks. I think you are correct. I found other links.

Now I'm really confused. I have always blamed these on my Nerite snails but they are huge compared to the ones in the photos above. What are these things @KJ.

Nice picture. Your snail like a clean location for her family.
So the eggs sacs I found were about .75 to 1mm in diameter. The eggs themselves are much smaller. They look very much like the ones in your second picture. I also found some links to other sites with pictures of nerite snails. (Does r2r allow links to other sites like reef central?)
