Any idea what type of snail this is? This is as large as I've seen them.

Two good shouts there, but I just had a Google and I seen a good few possible matches under Marginella. Only a couple possible matches at different images of Olividae snails.

I'm going with Marginella snail as well. They are carnivorous and predatory. I would not put it back in the tank.
When in doubt take it out :)

Thanks! I've got some image diving and googling to do now, lol.

The one pictured is d.e.a.d. so, isn't going back in.
I've seen 2 or 3, here and there so next time I find one I'll be pulling them out.

I've pulled 7 out the last two mornings, for a total of 14...in two days...! that seems like a lot to me.
Someone mentioned they are "carnivorous and predatory" what is usually on their menu? Anything alive/dead as long as its meaty? Or are they more selective?

From what I have read they will eat what they can catch. Like clams, other snails, or just left over food from what you feed the tank.
