Everytime I pull my skimmer collection cup off and start to walk to the sink with it, I always imagine how awful it would be to trip over a dog, or accidentally drop it somehow.:doh: OMG, can you imagine the smell! and if you have carpet....ugh!

You know I was very surprised at how little mine smelled. It is thick green and nasty but little to no smell.

I run ecobak and it really never smells bad. But I am glad I don't have carpet because I'm sure I'd have all kinds of drips ... can't imagine how people keep tanks with carpet around.

True! But there are those three steps with carpet, and that's what I'll trip on. Lol

My skimmate stinks so bad when I clean it that my wife can smell it upstairs and on the opposite side of the house. And then it lingers for about 45 minutes. Bio pellets definitely cause it to stink more I think. Also my collection cup is a foot in diameter and about 10" tall. So even when it's just a 1/4 full that's a LOT of funk.

Mine doesn't. That is weird but I am not running any kind of pellets. I do have my overflow running to a separate collection jar.

I accidentally didn't turn off my skimmer the other day when I turned off the main pumps to feed my fish...I thought my little dog dropped a bomb and I blamed her for the awful smell that filled up my entire place.. I soon realized it was my skimmer overflowing and I felt bad. My whole house smelled like something died for a long time! The end.

I was a commercial fisherman for years; still fish a lot, but not for a living. My skimmer cup made me gag a few weeks ago. I'm careful not to open it right under my nose.

I'm disgusted every time I clean it but there is still some sick satisfaction to stick my hands in there and remove all that stank gunk.

I used gloves when I cleaned out my skimmer today. Unlucky for me the brush I was using slipped out of the cup and flung nastiness all over me. I almost gagged.

I warn my girlfriend everytime I go to clean it so she can leave the room or at least cover the nose but I still get looks... haha I do the finger wipe down as well after I rinse out as much as I can with the faucet. Learned long ago to walk with a tower under a full collection cup!
