Right now I am using HWreefer, my only concern with it is my alk is pretty low. I have a 30 gallon, with a few lps, just starting out. I did a five gallon change, Tuesday. Do at least twice a week, as of now. Tested my alk wed and it was 7.5, tested it today and it was 7.3. HW claims I think 8.5 alk mixed at 1.025. So it's not terrible high out of the box, right? I was thinking about switching to Red Sea coral pro, which has a much higher claim of alk. I have a unopened bag of HW, and don't want it to go to waste. So can I mix the two? Should I stick with what I have?

You can definitely mix both. At the volume you do water changes, it will be gradual for your fish and corals anyway. :)

Okay, thank you. Do you think that is a smart way to raise my alk?

I am probably the wrong person to ask. I try to buy salt that has the parameters I want because I am scared of the whole dosing thing. If you are comfortable with dosing your tank, you might want to go a different route.

I just switched to hw. Its 9.0dkh. Its inconsistent, even if you mix the bag very well. Im going back to rscp. I never used to dose with it.

Red Sea is pretty consistent? Isn't an alkalinity of 11 pretty high?

Its 12.2. Yes its high but you adjust your waterchanges to how much your tank is consuming.
11 was a pretty rough guess ha. And I got you, so could be once a week, or once every two weeks. If I'm using HW, with a alk of around 8, how would I start using Red Sea? Don't want to raise my dkh rapidly.

Figure out how much your tank consumes, then change a gallon or two, the next day test your alk.
