Hello!

I was wondering if you can purchase a cabinet only for a Red Sea reefer tank. Thank you for any insights!

Thank you! I sent them an email.

Hey herold,

do you know which plumbing parts I’d need to order just for the overflow box?

I’m going to do custom plumbing for the sump, so I’d just need the siphon, emergency siphon, and return plumbing.

All of that should be available from fish tanks direct. Need the bulkheads too.

You can't check out with the product I linked? It goes into my cart no problem.
Oh, I ordered it :)

They called me to make sure that I knew it was just parts of the cabinet and not the entire cabinet. They don't have all the parts to make an entire cabinet.

That's wild, what a terrible product description. Given a reefer 350 is $1950 new (which also includes a sump and plumbing), $700 seems entirely reasonable for the stand alone.

For just a few non-described "parts"?? They really need to work on their site.

Agreed!

They said that Red Sea charges insane amounts (cabinet, sump, tank alone) in order to deter people from taking advantage of their customer service / free replacements and trying to make a whole new system out of it.

@RyanHoan you should be able to order stand from Fish Tanks Direct, I did. You must not be doing your search properly.

Interesting note on the price of a Red Sea cabinet:

Red Sea just quoted me $700 for a cabinet.

If you look at whatever Fish Tanks Direct is selling here, They're charging $700: https://www.fishtanksdirect.com/reefer-xl425-cabinet-white.aspx

They told me that it's NOT a complete cabinet; just the exterior parts.

They also have a product called "internal parts for cabinet", although on the phone they told me that they do NOT have all the parts to make a complete cabinet:

lets say that this does make a whole cabinet. Working directly with Red Sea is still the cheaper route. All this leaves me a little uncomfortable with purchasing from Fish Tanks Direct...

@RyanHoan @TheHarold then they changed their product line since the I bought my Reefer 170 complete cabinet only about two years ago. Funny thing is the guy asked me if I was going to use the cabinet to set an aquarium on and I told him it’s for a water change mixing station because it has to support 300+ pounds and still match my Reefer 250 system. He said the weight has to be focused on the perimeter of the top of the stand for some reason. So I built a rectangle frame that sits on the perimeter out of plywood and it’s ~2” high. Then a sheet of plywood covering the entire top of stand but resting on the top of the frame. The ATO reservoir goes on top this and the saltwater vessel goes inside the cabinet.

Thanks for all the help!

A quick update: So Fish Tanks Direct doesn't have the entire cabinets, but they're going go give me a good deal and get the missing pieces from RS, plus a very fair shipping price.
Overall great customer service from them. I do wish they'd make their website a little more comprehensive though!
