Can you put differn't Favia close to each other?

How close can you put different named Favia to each other. Can you fuse two different one together? I know the Favia will extend feeding tentacles out pretty far.

There are alot of different species of favia in the hobby. Many corals we also refer to as favias are really favites, platygyras and goniastrea. They are fairly easy to tell apart between the genus's when grown into a colony. There are a few different specias of favia within our hobby, many being hard to tell apart from each other. Favia species are not compatible with each other, they will most likely fight like any other coral on coral warfare.

Can you elaborate on this? Everything I’ve read/been told says that you can put different favias close together/touching but that, say, a favia and a favites must be separate. Same goes for acan lords, platygyra etc. It is hard though when it seems like a lot of places don’t label genus and species. When I see a favia garden is it only working because the favias all match at the species level? I’m hoping to eventually do a favia garden (or a lord garden or a favites garden) so I’m trying to figure out which genus is my favorite before I start.

I would think the different species would sting each other while competing for space. Am I wrong ?

Acan lords are the same species. Maybe the people who have told me that all favias could be placed close together were confusing favia for a species rather than a genus?

i mean maybe you can try to research some favias that are the same species that you can place next to each other. Instead of trying a guessing game as to which would be compatible

I have. At least, I’ve read about favias on LiveAquaria and they just say “favia sp.” I have two LFS near me and neither of them can guarantee favia down to the species from what I can gather. All I see is “favias are ok close together” so I got excited when I saw that garetjax65 had a similar question. Do you have any resources you can recommend specifically?

I have a wwc g.i. Joe favia and got a wwc flurry favia I was planning on putting on the same rock. Would they go to war with each other? @WWC

My two Favia Corals (shown here) I was hoping to place on the same rockwork. One would be above the other, so my biggest fear would be the lower Favia coral winning the possible warfare that could take place.

I have many "favia" and they do not like each other. Granted, looking at my colonies I have a variety of types (genus). Unless you know they are the same coral genus and species, I would not put them close together.

I doubt many people have any real Favia at all. It's pretty much always one of the other ones, and then you have to either properly ID them somehow, or do trial by fire and see what survives and wht doesn't when they touch.

I have like 10 or 12 varieties and all of the frags will fight with one another if put side by side on a frag rack. If you want to make a "garden" use Micro Lords or Zoas.
