Seeking recommendations on a college level Chemistry textbook. The kind of textbook that a college freshman might get with a "Chemistry 101" class. My goal is to establish a foundation on which I can build.

Thank you,
Dom

I like
Chemistry: The Central Science by Brown and LeMay

Theres lots of other good authors including Zumdahl and Tro.

This is the book I used for my freshman Chem 105/106 course for pre med/chemistry majors.

Good thread! I’ve thought about going back and trying to find a good text book for basic chem!

Yes... There appears to be a lot of good information on chemistry here. I understand so little of it and think a better foundation in chemistry would go a long way in helping me to understand.

If you live near a college campus, hit up their bookstore and buy whatever general Chemistry book they are selling. It will only be like $400.

Are you interested more in chemistry theory and fundamentals or just chemistry involving reef tanks and what not?

@dwest

I wonder why there is such a price difference between hard cover and paperback...

I found this:

Hardcover:

Paperback was only $61.

No... I want theory and fundamentals.

I want to establish a foundation on which to build.

Ah gotcha. I'm an upcoming senior about to finish my BA in Biochemistry. That book right there will get you on the right track man.

It's all a big scheme.

Actually, I read in the reviews that the soft covers are imported from outside the country. Not sure how this makes them available at 1/2 price.
