Can you swap filters?

If I used a canister on a saltwater tank I would get a high flow one so the return can act as a power head, and I would ditch all the media and fill the entire thing with live rock rubble, a chemi pure pack, and filter pad on top that I buy in bulk and cut to fit. Only maintenance would be to swap the pad weekly. And chemipure pack when needed

It sound pretty lazy, but do you think after not cleaning for so long, that just washing the filter media, and putting it into the new filter, and making sure that filter gets cleaned would be better? I would have to set up the filter though, bad that’s never too much of a hassle for me

No, washing the media isn’t going to help the filter work better, or at least not a lot. It’s only going to help with nitrates.

You need to do your maintenance. Don’t set up a new filter just because you’re trying to avoid cleaning the one you have right now… That’s just crazy ! Are you going to buy a new filter every 6 months ?

Fluval filters are really easy to clean too. It will take you 30 minutes the first time and half the time after that.

Yeah, I guess I’m just worried since that I haven’t don’t the maintenance before, that my filter might have something wrong with it. If I were to use the new filter, I would’ve taken care of it the eat I should have the first time

I don’t have filter socks, but the filter pads, I’m guessing I should just wash the filter pads and put them into the new filter?

Make sure that you only rinse them out....in NSW not fresh water....squeeze them out and put back in filter. They should last you forever (assuming you are using the sponges that can with the filter)....if its the media, then get new media, unless its the ceramic rings, they treat those like sponge's.

Turn the other into a GAC filter reactor

Run both

Clean both regularly

I used to use Magnum 350s back in the day, that what I did. Occasionally would run one as a diatomaceous earth filter to polish the water
