Do you have a coral in your tank that's your "canary in the coal mine" in terms of your water quality or general health of the tank? Are there any opinions about what would be good candidates for such a coral?
In a perfect world, I would think the following criteria would be ideal for an "indicator coral":
1) Sensitive to water chemistry and other factors of the tank
2) Requirements match other inhabitants of the tank
3) High survivability (sensitivity manifests in color changes or other indicators of health rather than death)
4) Responds relatively quickly to tank conditions to allow the aquarist time to intervene for other corals
5) Affordable
