Can anyone help me. So i have a Candy Apple orange Polyp that hasnt opened for 2 days. Seems like its shrinking and I really hope its not melting or to the point of no recovery. All my other Zoas (as seen in pic) are doing perfectly fine. Is there anything i should do to make sure its ok?

Salinity -1.026
ph - 8.4
Temp - 83.0
Cal -380
Alk- 9 dkh
Mag -1540
Nitrate -0
Ammonia -0

Mag is high. Not sure if that would do it. Consider lowering it. Also temp could be high. If your temp probe is under a degree or two you could be at 85 or 86. Consider lowering it to 78F. Not sure what your lighting is but zoa's don't like much unless they are acclimated slowly. (Months) Good luck

Could be several things. What lights are you using? Temp seems a little high. Is this a new frag to you. Might dip in coral Rx or lugol's.

Other then the temp being a tad bit high, parameters seem fine. Sad to say but zoas melt.

I adjusted the Heater and clicked it down a notch. Im going to check again tomorrow. Not sure how accurate these digital thermometers are. But ive had ppl saying they aren't that precise.

right now im using a kessil 360n. i have it set up like this. The frag rack where i have the candy apple orange is on the right side of the tank. I tried to put them a little bit far from the direct light. Should i move them Lower? also, by the looks of the polyp. Does it look like it may not be recoverable? because it was actually twice the size and it shrunk about 50% since yesterday.

its kinda blurry not sure it you can examine it good enough

Oh no that sucks BUT dont panick zoas can be finicky and make a comeback do not move it around. Just watch for a film to form on it and dip it in furan 2 about once a week in regular tank water. I also do lugols dips to boost immunity or whatever iodine does that is so essential. And may the Zoa gods work in your favor!

When did you get it? how long has it been under that kessil? did you acclimate properly starting in a shady lower area of the tank with low flow?

Im using a Kessil 360N. i had The frag for about a month and a half. It was looking really good until 2 days ago.

any suggestions on how to lower mag without losing effecting the other parameters?

thanks. So should i not move it farther from the light or just watch it closely until a film starts forming then perform the dip? Is it bad to dip now if theres no film?

IMO all your parameters are fine and I wouldnt try to modify anything while the zoa is stressed. just be ready to dip it.

Ive had it for almost 2 months. When i got it i put it on a frag rack towards the top/Right side of my tank where it got some light but not direct light. if that makes sense. It was looking really good and plump until 2 days ago. All the other zoas are thriving except him.

Okk. Thanks. i will keep a close eye on it and be ready to dip. I have Lugos and also RX. are those preferred?

I just read an article about Zoas and required lighting. I guess the brighter the zoa the more light reflects off of it and the darker the
zoa the more light it absorbs and does not need to be as close to the light. Can anyone relate to this theory? because im not sure if the stress on my candy apple orange is caused by the lighting. or by having it too close to the light. Theres both bright colors and dark on my CAO. lol
