Hi Everyone,

Just looking for opinions or perhaps some scientific information. You may or may not distinguish that I'm new, but I got to thinking about something. I know there seems to be huge arguments and debates over lighting. Enough, too much, not enough, etc..

Would approximately 1/4" growth in height and going from three Candy Cane Corals centers to eight over the course of four months sound like acceptable growth and lighting?

Would anyone know is there's information about typical growth? Basically I'm curious if there's a way to figure approximately how much light is actually being provided at the depth without having a Par or Lux meter. I know there's more variables involved, but I'm just looking to get an idea, and if it seems like enough, and thus I might be able to translate into other corals that I would be able to support with such lighting. The reason for this is that I've been thinking that I should upgrade my lighting to support some more light needy things, but I look at the Candy Coral, which I believe to be moderate light requirements, and in my evaluation seem to be growing and doing just fine, though I have nothing else to compare to and lack the experience.. so I'm turning to the community.

What kind of lights do you have over what tank? The growth sounds good are you feeding? And without a meter it is all gonna come down to watching your corals ti see how they like their position. Always acclimatr new corals to your light

Well, I'm basing my light off from growth to decide whether they are enough or not. I have a 27W led fluval reef strip light on top now.

I had acclimated the coral when I got it over the period of a few weeks... I also haven't fed or supplemented directly. So based on what seems like decent enough growth, I'd say there's enough lighing for at least those corals. I know that's not to say that more light wouldn't produce better results which it might, but I'm just looking for as far as keeping healthy and not under lighting, which I would say it appears I'm not based on your response and the growth I've seen thus far.

Someone else might have another opinion I'm sure, but until then, I'll believe what I just wrote to basically be the situation at this point.

I would defiantly keep an eye on them . Some corals are known to look like they are doing fine even grow for several months before a steady decline due to starvation. It seems like everything's going good though . How long have the corals been in the tank.

Four of the six months the tanks been alive.
