is he gone? If not what would you do?

Also you can see that my leather hasn't opened and has been like that for at least a week now. Everything else in the tank seems to be okay.

did you test your parameters? Also sad to say it does look dead, or right on the edge of death.

I don't have any candy canes in my tank so not sure a plan of action. possible dip or just remove so it doesn't pollute your water.

ph - 8.2
Nitrates - 3.5
Nitrites - 0
Ammonia - 0
dKH - 9
Meq/L - 3.2
Ca - 430

I wonder if there is anything I can do to try and save it or if it's dead and gone and I should remove it.

if your running GFO pull it. reduce lights perhaps.
My candy canes would do that if I used even a tablespoon in my 30g.
also test your Po.

You might also try moving it lower. Candy canes IME are very prone to getting too much light and will retract and recede like that when they're getting more than they like.

It is not completely dead as it still has some tissue. But it is close. What are your Phosphates at?

I'll check phosphates later. No GFO here. I also moved it from mid to lower in the tank and that's when the rest of it turned white.

Thats typical action of endolithic algae..
Too much light
As salty says very low light

So move them down low under the rock?
or decrease light. Nutrints and light keep a balance. under a set amount of light too low a nutrient level can cause bleaching, to much nutrient can cause browning.
assuming other stable factors in the tank, the light nutrient balance should be looked at.

Inside skeleton of lps corals some types of algae calls endolithic adapt themselves to growth in, they are very important for corals as there is a mutual exchange between them
Algae erase coral inside very slowly and at same time coral deposit calcium carbonate during growth upper
Problem is when light speed up the growth of algae more then deposition of calcium carbonate

Probably you place the coral up under highlight and this during time give to algae a fastner of growth And at same time coral start to whitener increasing the light to algae

They are very hard coral ...hope yes
Pic is not clear if it take out tentacles good sign
Feed it with solution of 5ml water tank and few grain of zooplancton powder once a week
If tentacles are out
