Candy cane deteriorated overnight

What is up with this? Overnight the top is like brittle and all the coloring is “melting” off…

it looks like it got eaten and skin sucked off I’m really upset and not sure why this happened and overnight…. It was colorful yesterday.

nitrite is 0.03, nitrate 15, amonia 0.03, my salinity was way down at 30ppm ive never had my salinity off so that was a surprise to me. my ammonia and nitrites have been up cuz I was battling dino 2 weeks ago and had no water changes, dosing nitrate and pho heavy and microbacter7/tims waste away. the system is still playing catch up. could it be ammonia and salinty level that fast?

I don't know microbacter. But candycanes can't handle salinity swings at all. Did alk or calcium dropped too?

Also phosphate / calcium/ magnesium is not mentioned. I think a lot of things can be off with salinity swings.

Ah I see, that definitely wouldn't be the problem, so it must be salinity swings and everything else that happily played along

These are working against one another. Both mb7 & dr tims are nitrare/phos reducers.
