Hey all. I have a small candy cane colony that has been doing great. It started as one head and now has a good bit. However for the past few days they have been very closed up and the mouths open. It started after a water change I believe. The only thing I did extra was replace the carbon in my reactor. Just wanted to hear your thoughts. I mean they still have great color and all. They are just really retracted. Thanks!

If it started after a water change, check your parameters that something didn't get out of wack, including salinity and temperature.

I did lower temp from 80f to 77f but that was on friday and all seemed well. I'll double check Sg and make sure. Everything else seems happy including acros

Any shrimp or anything messing with it?

Of course now they're puffing back up. I normally wait 3 days or so before I start to worry. Today was day 4. They're just doing their thing now.

As always thanks Crabs

Looks like you have caluastrea tumida , which is a bit different from caluastrea furcata and curvata that are more commonly seen in the hobby

The closed up appearance is normal for the species
