Can anyone recommend a very good canister filter for a 40 breeder? I currently have a ehiem rated for 90 gallons on one of my freshwater tanks, but is there a good one in particular you guys use for saltwater?

Canister filters generally aren't recommended for saltwater tanks. They are very prone to trapping the nasties (and becoming nitrate factories) and being very high maintenance at best. HOB or Sump are your best bets.

I was thinking about making a 20 long sump but that would mean I would need to relocate the fish to drill the glass. I dont really trust the hob overflows.

Could you recommend the gph from the sump for a 40 breeder? I was thinking maybe around a 500 gph weir and a 650 gph return for making up about 4 or 5 ft of head pressure. I know the pump rating should be a little higher than the weir rating, right?

Any help would be useful. I am a newbie at this after all.
