Hi all,
I am using a Cascade 700 canister filter on my 29g Reef. Nowadays people are preferring the refugium; but are there any mods or something specific I can put in the canister to make it, say better? Any improvements?

Thank you,

I improved my canister by throwing it away.. I know that's probably not what you're looking for but I absolutely hated mine. not because it wasn't effective or because it was supposedly a nitrate factory, I just hated how much of a pain in the butt it was to clean.. I always made a mess with it..

Ya it is kind of a pain... I know where you're coming from, but throwing it away is not an option for me. I have a method where I don't get any water all over.

I take the top off, and put it in the bucket I use and just let the water drip in there, then I go clean and come back.

Yeah you can toss out the stuff inside and use it for live rock if you want. Or just use it for carbon/gfo and leave the rest out. They become a nitrate trap and its hard to keep them clean enough. Even those with good intentions hardly ever clean them like they should.

If I was to take it all out and fill it with rock, wouldn't I need a light?
