Canister filter.. sump cleaner?

I was thinking why not use a canister filter to suck up the detritus in my sump and that floats in the tank after blowing on my rocks.
Secondly why not be able to shove it full or carbon or other things as needed. Why spend a chunk for a media reactor when I can use a canister filter as well.
Thought and replies, pleaseeee.
This is will be used on 2 @ 150g stock sumps with 2 @ 40g refug

I’ve used them for these things throughout the years. They work well for cleaning and clearing for sure! The most recent thing I’ve used one for is to run a uv sterilizer, it worked really well for that too!
