Canister filter

Wait so how do people who do multiple HOb’s have success if just 1 canister filter (sun sun) won’t even work on a 150?

It all comes down to how much food you put in the tank every day. That means way more than the size of the tank.

Most people don't stock as heavily as I do, and it's my experience that manufacturer ratings are based on very lightly stocked tanks of XXX-size. Medium-stocked cut their numbers in half. Heavily stocked cut their numbers to 1/4.

You can find lots of pictures/posts of XXX-size tank running Filter-X,Y,Z. But you have to know how much livestock it's supporting AND the maintenance schedule required to support that configuration.

I absolutely do not clean anything more than once per week (except the glass), and I open my canisters no more than once per month. My systems are built to support HEAVY stocking under those conditions.

I have the fx4 on my 200 gallon, it’s a great filter but I do clean it every other week when I do my water change. I have been completely satisfied with it.
Lol thanks for your input. There’s a welcoming POV. I love this. As a newbie it’s a load on info and interesting yet total contradictory opinions.

Here’s the thing, I have a 75G Fowlr tank. I like to break the rules. I have 8 fish. 4 tangs, trigger, Val Puffer, Coral Beaut, and two clowns. They’re all Juveniles, not even 3” yet. I did that on purpose. I am upgrading to a 150 before anyone has a heart attack. But for now I want to upgrade my filtration. I have an Aqueon 110 and sponge filter right now. Doing water changes every week. I want to grab a good canister that I can eventually add on to my 150 when I get it.

What kind of fish do you have in your tank?
We have 2 yellow wrasse, sailfin tang, 1 blenny, 1 damsel, 2 clowns, 4 chromis, 1 fire fish, 3 cardinals, a dragon wrasse, 2 cleaner shrimp, 1 arrow crab, 1 pistol shrimp, 1 coral banded shrimp, a decorator crab, 2 sexy shrimp, and lots of cuc.

So not too big of a bioload
