I have canister filters with separate baskets in them .. what is the best filter media to put inside biohome,alfagrog or any others one basket has rowaphos and purigen carbon bags others are ceramic ring etc and first one on the return is foam..which as we know is just a crap catcher ,I just want to Boost bacteria holding efficiency a tad if I can ..cheers

Hey @Clanger - have you considered pot scrubbies? Yeah, like the cheap plastic ones you can get at any dollar store? They have an incredible bacteria capacity, really don’t get clogged and are super easy to clean. I’ve used them for a number of years in FW tank filters (FX 4’s, 5’s and 6’s and Eheim and Rena filters before the advent of FXs) with great success.

I ran marine pure gems or whatever random ceramic media I could find. It honestly doesn't matter too much, but I would use something smaller in a cannister filter so there is good water flow. Things getting clogged in cannisters was always my issue.
