I have a 20 gallon long tank thats been running for about 2.5 months now. Im running a aqua clear 70 hob with chemipure blue, seachem gfo, filter floss, and sponges. I'm also running an aqua clear 50 that a modded to use as a refugium, I just started growing macro algae in it but it's not very grown yet. The setup seems to work ok with taking nutrients out of the tank but it makes lots of micro bubbles and my water is always a little foggy. My parameters are all good but I have a sun sun canister filter (the biggest model on Amazon like 900 gph I think). I also have a coralife uv sterilizer that I can hook up to it which I know is beneficial with parasite control. Inthe tank there is currently about 30 lbs rock (started as dead rock but I guess it's live now) a filefish, a clownfish, an engineer goby, a damsel, a few soft corals, a couple crabs and snails, and a peppermint shrimp. I don't think I'm gonna add any more livestock, except corals and maybe another shrimp or something. Maintenance wise I do a weekly 2 gallon water change, gravel vac, and I dose a little bit alk and calc manually once a week cause my ph and especially alk tends to hang low if I dont. Anyway, should I switch to the canister? Or stick with the HOB stuff? If I should switch how should I go about doing it (with like bacteria and stuff, would it effect my system)?

if it is up and running now and the only problem is alk then just leave it be. switching to a canister won't do much and it won't change alk so why change?
